Reiki…

...is a holistic Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation, and spiritual healing. It uses the universal life force energy to address and balance physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances within our bodies. Reiki works with the whole person, including body, emotions, mind and spirit.  It creates many beneficial effects, including relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

...stems from two Japanese words – Rei, meaning "spirit" or "divine" and Ki, meaning "life force energy". Reiki, therefore, means"spiritually guided life force energy."

...is based on the idea that if one's "life force energy" is low or unbalanced, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress.  If it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

...can also be used to complement conventional medicine and works in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

What to expect:

Reiki is a spiritual practice. Energy passes through the practioner to the person being treated.  Reiki energy is transferred by the laying on of hands. A standard treatment involves placing the hands on various parts of the body, especially around the head, shoulders, stomach, and feet. Each position is held for between three and five minutes.

History of Reiki:

Reiki is thought to have begun in Tibet thousands of years ago.  The practice of Reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese educator, in the mid-1800s. It was introduced to the western world during the 1970s.
